Summer is often filled with hot days, fun, and meaningful time spent with family and friends. But it’s also a precious season to seek God, to grow deeper in His presence and His wisdom—a treasure that will guide you not just for today, but for your entire life.
Wisdom in Proverbs 8:17-21
In Proverbs 8, wisdom is described as a woman, strong, loving, and full of truth. But she isn’t just a symbol. She is an expression of God’s heart and character, His goodness, faithfulness, justice, mercy, and love. To seek God’s wisdom is to seek the heart of God Himself.
When we love wisdom, we are loving the ways of God. When we seek wisdom, we are seeking God, His will, His truth, and His heart. Seeking God involves praying before making decisions, asking for help with friendships, studying, or sports. It’s choosing to open your Bible and read, even if just one verse, before diving into social media or catching up on your favorite shows. Those few moments can bring you closer to God and change the outcome of your day.
Here’s what Proverbs 8:17-21 teaches us:
“I love all who love me. Those who search will surely find me.” Proverbs 8:17
God’s wisdom isn’t hidden. If you seek Him, if you joyfully desire God, you will find Him. Joyfully desiring God means running to Him with excitement in your heart, knowing that spending time with Him through prayer and His Word will fill your day with peace, guidance, and strength.
“I have riches and honor, as well as enduring wealth and justice.” Proverbs 8:18
God’s wisdom offers blessings that last: peace, strength, purpose, and joy that don’t fade. The world offers social media likes, followers, new trends, and fleeting popularity, but those things fade quickly. God’s wisdom offers confidence, clarity, and a heart that knows right from wrong, treasures that last forever.
“My gifts are better than gold, even the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver!” Proverbs 8:19
God’s wisdom is more valuable than all the wages you’ll ever earn, whether from a summer job or even throughout your life. The rewards of God’s wisdom far outweigh the temporary thrill of the latest iPhone, the trendiest outfit, or being the most popular in school. His wisdom brings happiness, peace, and the priceless joy of knowing the God who created you. It helps you navigate life’s challenges with discernment, guiding you to make decisions that honor God, protect your heart, and lead you toward a fulfilling future.
“I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice.” Proverbs 8:20
Following God’s wisdom is walking in God’s will—doing what’s right, honorable, and trustworthy. This might look like standing up for a friend who’s being mistreated, showing kindness to someone who’s been left out, or choosing honesty when it’s easier to lie.
It’s living with integrity even when no one is watching. When we live this way, we reflect God’s character to others and show them what His love looks like in action.
“Those who love me inherit wealth. I will fill their treasuries.” Proverbs 8:21
Those who choose God’s wisdom receive a lasting inheritance of blessings that go beyond what the world can offer. This wealth isn’t just money—it’s a life filled with God’s peace, His guidance, genuine friendships, a heart full of joy, and a future marked by God’s favor. It’s the treasure of knowing God and being known by Him, a testament to His love and our immeasurable value in His eyes. That’s a treasure no one can take from you — and it’s one you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life.
Desire God in the Everyday Moments
You don’t have to wait for a big moment or a new school year to desire God. It starts now. It starts today.
As you enjoy the summer days—spending time with friends, working a summer job, going to camp, or getting ready for school—make space in your day to seek God.
- Ask God for wisdom in your prayers, in your choices, and throughout your day.
- Write down a Bible verse or a prayer each morning in your planner, letting God’s Word fill your thoughts for the day.
- Let your heart joyfully desire God more than anything else.
Shine Bright Girls – Your Memory Verse for This Month
“I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.” Proverbs 8:17
Let this be your summer of desiring God’s presence, of joyfully seeking, growing, and shining bright. God has beautiful wisdom just waiting for you to discover.
Each morning, ask yourself: “How will I desire God today?”
And remember the widow in Jesus' story from Luke 15, who searched carefully for her lost coin. She lit her lamp, swept her house, and didn't stop until she found it.
Let’s seek God with that same diligence and determination, lighting the lamp of His Word in our hearts to expose anything that might hinder us from seeking Him fully. Let’s sweep away distractions so that we can discover the treasure of God’s wisdom every day.
Be intentional this summer. Joyfully seek God, His wisdom, His heart, His guidance, and His peace. The treasure you'll find is worth everything.
