Surrendering to God—Even in the Summer!

Surrendering to God—Even in the Summer!

Summer is usually the time we hit pause, no classes, no homework, and no packed school schedules. However, while summer provides us with space to rest and reset, it also offers the perfect opportunity to grow closer to our Creator God and discover more about His amazing love for us. One of the most meaningful ways to do that is through surrender, letting go of control and leaning to trust God with everything, just as John the Baptist did.

John the Baptist’s life was a life of worship. His entire purpose pointed to Jesus. Even before he was born, he responded to the presence of Christ with joy. He lived boldly, spoke truthfully, and surrendered completely, even when it cost him everything. That’s worship. Worship isn’t just a song, a Sunday school class, or a raised hand in church. Worship is a posture of the heart, a daily choice to stay grounded and connected to God, no matter where you are or what season you’re in.

So what does that look like for you this summer? It might mean starting your day by reading your Bible in a quiet space, journaling your prayers, or talking to God about your feelings and giving God your thoughts, dreams, struggles, and decisions. Instead of getting lost in scrolling through your phone or worrying about the future, choose to say: “Jesus, my Savior, You are worthy. My life is Yours. This summer, focus on what truly matters and don't let distractions pull you away from God's presence.

Let everything you do this summer be an act of worship, whether you're at church, VBS, helping your family, or just hanging out with yourself. Surrender isn't giving up; it's giving God control. It's saying, "Your way is better, Lord. Lead me."

Let your summer days be days where you talk to God, reflect on His Word, and grow in your relationship with Him and your knowledge of who He is. Worship with your time, words, choices, and your heart.

Jesus is worthy, oh so worthy.  And your life is a beautiful way to show it.

Use your Shine Bright Study Planner to organize your days, write down your thoughts, and record your relationship with your Creator God, because even your quiet moments can shine with purpose.

Pause & Praise: A Challenge to Worship with Your Life

This week, choose one way to worship God with your actions, not just with your words. It could be:

v  Starting each day with 5 minutes of prayer and Bible reading.

v  Doing something kind for someone who’s hurting.

v  Taking an hour break from social media to spend time with God, praying, reading your Bible, or listening to worship music.

v  Writing a Scripture in your planner or on a sticky note to encourage you daily.

Then write in your planner or journal what you did and how it helped you draw closer to Jesus. Every small act of surrender is a step closer to a heart that shines bright with worship.

Rest in God's promises and rise in His strength. He is with you every step of the way this week.
