How one prophet’s honest questions can help us trust God when life feels uncertain and confusing.
Sometimes the world around us can feel confusing and even a little scary. We hear adults talking about wars, rising prices, violence in communities, and problems happening in schools. When we see or hear these things, it’s natural to wonder what is happening in the world and why so many difficult things are taking place.
People have asked these kinds of questions for a very long time. In the Bible, a prophet named Habakkuk looked at the troubles in his own nation and cried out to God, “How long, O Lord...?" Why must I watch all this misery?" (Habakkuk 1:2-3). Habakkuk wondered how long injustice and violence would continue and why God seemed silent.
But Habakkuk’s story doesn’t end with confusion. As he talked with God, something began to change—not the circumstances around him, but his heart. Habakkuk learned that even when we don’t understand what is happening in the world, we can still trust the God who sees everything, is in control, and remains faithful.
One of the things we learn from Habakkuk is that it is okay to bring our questions to God. Habakkuk did not hide his worries or pretend everything was fine. Instead, he spoke honestly to the Lord about what he saw happening around him.
Habakkuk saw violence and injustice, and it troubled him. He wondered how long these things would continue and why it sometimes seemed like God was silent. So he cried out to God and asked his questions.
Girls today may not face the same things Habakkuk saw, but they still experience moments that feel confusing or unfair. Sometimes it might be problems at school, friendships that hurt, pressure from social media, or difficulties in family life. At other times, it may be troubling news about the world that makes us wonder what is happening.
Habakkuk reminds us that when we feel uncertainty, confusion, or trouble, we can talk to God honestly. He invites us to bring our fears, worries, and questions to Him because He cares for us.
Even when Habakkuk could not understand what God was doing, God told him something very important: He was already at work behind the scenes. Things might not have made sense yet, but God was not ignoring the problems Habakkuk saw.
Sometimes we feel the same way today. We might look at the world and wonder why things are happening, or where God is. But just like in Habakkuk’s time, God is still present, watching over the earth and working out His plans, even when we cannot see everything clearly.
God reminded Habakkuk that those who trust Him must live by faith (Habakkuk 2:4). That means trusting God’s character and promises, even when we don’t understand what is happening around us.
By the end of the book, something amazing had changed in Habakkuk’s heart. His faith in God had strengthened, and he learned that even in difficult times, God is still worthy of his trust.
Pause and Reflect
Take a quiet moment to reflect on these questions or talk to God about them in prayer.
- When you look at the world or a difficult situation in your life, what questions come to your mind?
- What worries or questions would you like to bring to God in prayer today?
- How might remembering that God is faithful and strong help you when life feels confusing?
You may write your thoughts in a journal or whisper a short prayer to God.
My sweet girls, when the world feels confusing or scary, you can remember what Habakkuk discovered: God is still watching, still faithful, and still strong. When you pray and talk to God, remember that He sees you, hears you, and loves you. Your faith grows, and you begin to experience His faithfulness in your life. When you bring your questions to Him and trust His promises, your hearts can rest in His strength. Just like Habakkuk, you can lift your eyes to the Lord and say with confidence:
“The Sovereign Lord is my strength.”
