Have you ever had to wait for something that felt really important?
Maybe you've been praying for a friendship to get better.
Waiting for God to answer a prayer.
Wondering what school will be like next year.
Hoping things at home will improve.
Or simply asking God, "When?"
Waiting is hard because we want answers now. We want to know how everything will turn out and when God will answer our prayers. But God's timing is often different from ours. While we can only see today, God sees the whole journey from beginning to end. He knows exactly what we need and the perfect time to provide it.
Waiting can feel hard because we can't always see what God is doing. Sometimes we wonder if He hears our prayers or remembers what we've been asking Him for.
But Psalm 33 reminds us of something wonderful:
While you are waiting... God is watching.
God Never Stops Watching Over You
Psalm 33:18 tells us, "The LORD watches over those who fear Him, those who rely on His unfailing love."
Think about what that verse truly means.
Your Creator God watches over your going out and your coming in. You are never out of His sight. When you are sleeping, He is watching over you. When you are walking through the hallways at school, sitting in the cafeteria, laughing with friends, or quietly wondering if anyone notices you, God's loving gaze is always upon you.
He sees the tears you hide.
He knows the prayers you whisper.
He understands the fears you don't always know how to explain.
God never blinks. He never sleeps. He never becomes distracted or too busy to care about what is happening in your life. His eyes are always on His children because His heart is always filled with love for them.
That means you are never overlooked, never forgotten, and never alone. Even on the days when you feel invisible to everyone else, your heavenly Father sees you, loves you, and walks beside you every step of the way.
God Is Your Helper and Your Shield
Verse 20 reminds us that God is our help and our shield.
What does that mean for you?
When you're facing a broken friendship, unfair bullying from classmates, a difficult test, family struggles at home, or a problem you don't know how to solve, God is your Helper. He doesn't stand far away, watching you struggle on your own. He steps into the middle of your situation and walks through it with you.
He comes alongside you when life feels too heavy, giving you the strength to keep going, the wisdom to make good choices, and the courage to trust Him one day at a time.
And God is your Shield.
A shield protects someone from danger. In the same way, God surrounds you with His loving care and faithful presence. He stands with you in every storm you face. When you feel afraid, He gives you peace. When you feel weak, He gives you strength. When you don't know which way to go, He promises to guide you.
That doesn't mean life will always be easy. We will all face difficult days. But it does mean you never have to face them alone. Your heavenly Father is walking beside you, strengthening your faith, protecting your heart, and reminding you that nothing can separate you from His love.
Choose Joy While You Wait
Waiting isn't always easy, but it doesn't have to steal your joy.
Psalm 33 ends with a beautiful reminder that our hearts can rejoice because we have placed our trust in God. Our joy doesn't come from knowing exactly what will happen tomorrow. It comes from knowing the God who holds tomorrow in His hands.
As you wait for God to answer your prayers, remember that you are not waiting alone. You are waiting with the Lord. He is watching over you, helping you, shielding you, and faithfully working in ways you cannot always see.
While you are waiting, keep praying. Keep trusting. Keep looking to Jesus. His timing is always perfect, and His love for you never changes.
One day, you'll look back and realize that while you were waiting for God to answer your prayers, He was faithfully and sovereignly working in you.
