Welcome, Shine Bright Girls!
This space is just for you—a place to grow in faith, confidence, and purpose as you shine for Jesus in everyday life.
Have you ever stopped to think about what worship means? We often picture worship as singing in church or lifting our hands during a song—and yes, that is worship—but it’s also so much more.
The word worship comes from the old English word “worth-ship,” which means giving someone the honor, value, and praise they truly deserve. That means worship is more than a moment; it’s a way of life. Psalm 29:2 says, “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness.”
So, how do we live a life of worth-ship? What does that look like in school, at lunch, math class, or while texting your friends?
Let’s look at someone who lived it out boldly and beautifully—John the Baptist.
Yes, he’s known for wearing camel’s hair and eating wild locusts, but John also gave God everything. His voice, courage, choices, and his entire life pointed to Jesus.
Why John the Baptist Stands Out:
- He wasn’t afraid to speak the truth, even when it wasn’t popular.
- He chose boldness over comfort.
- He gave God his trust, even in confusion and hardship.
- He didn’t make life about himself—he made it about Jesus.
- He declared, “He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). That’s worship.
Even before John ever preached or baptized anyone, he worshiped. When he was still a baby in the womb, he leaped with joy at the sound of Mary’s voice, the mother of Jesus (Luke 1:41). He responded to Jesus’ presence with joy. That moment of awe? That joyful leap? That was worship.
But John also had difficult days. When he was in prison, unsure of what would happen next, questions filled his heart. Still, he turned to Jesus. Real worship means trusting God even when we don’t understand the outcome. It’s whispering, “I still believe you're working things for my good. You’re in control. You have a plan for my life. You’re so worthy,” when nothing seems right.
What About You?
You might not be wearing camel’s hair or preaching in the halls at school, but your life points to what matters most to you; it points to what you value. Is it pointing to Jesus?
When you choose kindness over drama.
When you say no to gossip.
When you pray before a test or thank God after a win.
When you stand up for someone being left out or bullied.
When you choose honesty instead of cheating or taking the easy way out.
That’s worship.
Worship is living like Jesus matters more than anything else. And you don’t have to be loud to live boldly. Sometimes, worship is simply being calm and faithful in your attitude, words, and choices. This quiet and steadfast nature of worship can bring you reassurance and peace.
Psalm 100:2 says, "Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy."
So, what does your life say about what Jesus is worth to you?
Let it shout, like John’s life did:
Look at Jesus! Trust Jesus!
Shine Bright Challenge
This week, think of one way you can worship at school—not with a song, but with your life. Maybe it’s inviting someone to sit with you, or offering to help a friend who’s stressed out. Maybe it’s praying for courage before a challenging conversation or giving God credit when something goes right.
You don’t have to be perfect. You have to be His willing vessel, ready to be used.
And your life, your everyday, normal, school-day life, can shine for Him.
Now that’s “worth-ship,” my sweet Shine Bright girls!
Keep shining! Jesus is your light—let Him shine through you every day!
